چکیده

Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is the most common soft-tissue sarcoma of childhood. The neoplasm probably originates from pluripotential mesenchyme, and may occur anywhere in the body. Thirty to 40% arise in the head and neck. Imaging studies typically show a homogeneous soft-tissue mass, often with poorly defined margins and permeative bone destruction (1-5). We report an unusual case of embryonal RMS of the facial soft tissues. The tumor consisted of a cavity with multiple extensions that communicated with the subarachnoid space.

Atretic cephalocele - an uncommon cause of cystic scalp mass.

A 6 year-old girl presented with a midline parietal scalp swelling that had been gradually enlarging since birth. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed communication of the cyst with the subarachnoid space through a calvarial defect, with concomitant findings of vertically positioned straight venous sinus and subependymal grey matter heterotopia. A diagnosis of atretic cephalocele was thus made b...

Gadolinium leakage into subarachnoid space and cystic metastases.

Subarachnoid space (SAS) and cystic metastatic lesions of brain parenchyma appear hypointense on fluid-attenuated inversion-recovery (FLAIR) and T1-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) unless there is a hemorrhage or elevated protein content. Otherwise, delayed enhancement and accumulation of contrast media in SAS or cyst of metastases should be considered. We present hyperintense SAS and ...

High variability of facial muscle innervation by facial nerve branches: A prospective electrostimulation study.

OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS To examine by intraoperative electric stimulation which peripheral facial nerve (FN) branches are functionally connected to which facial muscle functions. STUDY DESIGN Single-center prospective clinical study. METHODS Seven patients whose peripheral FN branching was exposed during parotidectomy under FN monitoring received a systematic electrostimulation of each branch...

Appendicovesical fistula presenting as a bladder mass in a girl with cystic fibrosis: a case report

Background: Appendicovesical fistula in patients suffering from cystic fibrosis is a rare condition. Although this situation is so rare it should be considered in the differential diagnosis, dealing with a patient with cystic fibrosis and chronic abdominal pain with no response to primary management. To the best of our knowledge, this is the third case of appendicovesical fistula in a patient w...

Subcortical cystic lesions within the anterior superior temporal gyrus: a newly recognized characteristic location for dilated perivascular spaces.

SUMMARY Cystic parenchymal lesions may pose an important diagnostic challenge, particularly when encountered in unexpected locations. Dilated perivascular spaces, which may mimic cystic neoplasms, are known to occur in the inferior basal ganglia and mesencephalothalamic regions; a focal preference within the subcortical white matter has not been reported. This series describes 15 cases of patie...
